twelve

It is actually unbelievable that this girl is one year old!  She is SO fun right now, I can't get enough of her!  It is nice to have her more independent, she just plays and plays all day.  I love watching her explore and figure new things out.  She is truly such a joy in our lives and I am looking forward to the upcoming year.

New York, New York

For a graduation present to myself, I decided to go back to New York.  My wonderful sister Kelly accompanied Sophie and I, for which I was so grateful!  Those flights would have been murder without her!  We stayed with my brother and his wife on Long Island and it was a blast.  We were there for about 5 days and had the prefect ratio of relaxing and going, going!

We were crazy enough to take all three kiddies into the city one day and they were awesome!  We had one child per adult and it was a lot of fun.  While we did have some major "Hey, I don't live here so obviously I don't know what I'm doing" moments, we did survive.  With that said, NYC is definitely not catered to the young'uns cause let's just say, subways and strollers were never meant to be a combo.  I may or may not have shut Sophie's arm in the subway doors, nearly abandoned my sister on the platform, hit Sophie's head on the pole and completely landed on a stranger when the subway train started moving, all within about a one minute increment.  You had to be there :)

One reason we went out when we did was so Lauren and I could run the Brooklyn Half Marathon.  I have never done a half before, but Lauren had done one.  I was pretty excited and it was a good experience.  16,000 runners was a bit large for me, but I'm so glad I did it.  The race started at the Brooklyn Museum and ended on Coney Island; it was really a beautiful course and captured the essence of Brooklyn well.  We did the race with only about 3-4 hours of sleep since we had not quite realized until too late that we would have to leave at 3:45 a.m. in order to make the race on time. We were tired, to say the least.  But we did survive and finished with a time of 1:58, so my goal for finishing under 2 hours was complete.

Other highlights of the trip included a northern rocky beach on Long Island, Chelsea Market, FAO Schwartz, Central Park, NEWSIES (amazing), Cheesecake Factory, Sophie's Birthday, outdoor BBQs and lots of time visiting.  We will miss you NY!

Nine

(yes her bangs look nasty, but her face is too cute)

Yes it's true, she hit the 9 month mark. She is adorable and delightful and we love hanging out with her. When people say babies are really the most fun from 6-18 months, I'm thinkin they may be right.

Here are her 9 month stats:

Height: 28 inches - 64%
Weight: 18 lbs 14 oz - 50%
Head: 17.5 inches - 63%

Her weight shocked the heck out of me, I could have sworn she was at least 2o lbs she seems so heavy! Maybe it's just that she's so wiggly that it's harder to hold her?

She is crawling, getting into everything, and nothing makes her happier than eating; the girl eats absolutely everything, including pickles, onions, and lemons (without making a face). We're thinking she got Jord's taste buds :)

These two pics define her at the moment. She drags that baby everywhere and sucks on the pigtails all day. She is also completely content to let you walk her all over anywhere. Happy 9 months Sophie girl.

I'm sure the next post here on the blog will be her 12 month mark, so don't hold your breath until then. If we make it that far, it will be an ECSTATIC day for me! :)

six

Our sweet little Sophie is six months old. This is incredibly hard to believe! She is truly an awesome baby. I tell people all the time that I'm afraid once I'm done with school she will decide I've had my time and become a super demanding baby. Either that or we are really in for it with the next baby that comes along, because we have have been so spoiled! Really, I just consider it a tender mercy. Heavenly Father decided to take compassion on us since our lives are pure madness currently.

I feel like she has changed a ton the past month or so. She sits up great by herself, has cut her bottom two teeth, and is trying pretty hard to push herself up onto all fours. And she has finally mastered eating baby food and rice cereal. This took some time. We definitely didn't use her binky to make her swallow nearly every bite...

So here are the girl's stats from the doc:

Height: 26 1/3" - 71%
Weight: 16 lbs 4 oz - 56%
Head: 17" - 71%

So she is getting a bit chubbier, which we love. Who can resist those cheeks???

Vent

Just going to vent for one minute about why I am awake at 1 AM. Have to register for my FINAL semester of college. Registration opened at midnight. I am just paranoid enough that I won't get the classes I need, so I stayed up this late to ensure I would get all of them. Jord called me a worry-wart. And here I am, still registering. Thank you UVU and the slowest running website of all time.

four

My girl is four months old. As any mom says, the time has flown. I think she is totally delightful, with the exception of eating...the girl does not like to eat! The circumstances must be perfect in order for her to eat well. As in not too hot or cold (her or the food), not to happy or sad, not too hungry, but also hungry enough. Half the time I feed her I have to bounce on a big stability ball...no it does not work my muscles, it hurts my back instead! I have almost thrown in the towel on nursing a number of times, but well, I happen to believe it is a great thing so in the morning I always try again for one more day. And then of course once she's fed she gives me a great big grin which causes me to feel like even though it was a fight, she is happy.

We went to her four month appointment today and here are the results:

Height: 25 inches - 76%
Weight: 13 lb 2 oz - 37%
Head: 16.5 inches - 75%

We got the go ahead to start cereal, so we gave that a whirl tonight and it went pretty well! I think she'll get the hang of it before too long, and hopefully she will eat solids better than she nurses!

On another note, I have returned to school. While this has been great for giving me a sense of productivity (instead of the many hours a day I was spending on Netflix over the summer...), it has definitely been tough. I hate leaving her, it brings me a lot more guilt than I anticipated. That being said, I have two semesters left and feel it's important to just get er done. To all of you who were smart enough to finish your degree before you had kids, well done! If I could go back, I sure would have done the same!

Jordan's job is as great as ever, and still a complete rollercoaster most of the time. He is starting to work as an independent contractor more, he definitely prefers working that way better. Happy Jord=happy family!

I realize this is a pretty long and boring post but I thought it would be good to catch up! The posting may be scarce in the future, due to our busy lives, but we are alive and well, which is really all I could hope for.

Plus, it is fall now, which is my absolute favorite time of year! Everything seems better in the fall.

And here is Sophie's latest trick.
Sorry, kinda long, but she's cute so it's worth it!

Happy 4th!

We enjoyed a pretty relaxed holiday with my family up in Kaysville. We got to see my nieces (Drew and Paige) play, The Wizard of Oz, they were both munchkins. They had some great costumes that Kelly made, but I didn't get pictures unfortunately. They were awesome little actresses though and we enjoyed watching them.

After the play we had a nice BBQ and just hung out. Part of the family went to watch fireworks, Jordan and my bro-in-law Scott went to a movie (shock), while Kelly, Ruby, Sophie and I watched the fireworks from Kelly's sidewalk. We actually had a decent view and it was nice not to have to fight the crowds. Overall it was a great day and we loved spending it with those we love! Enjoy the pics we snagged below. Yes there were a million of Sophie, I picked just a few :)
